As a co-parent in a thriving bi-nuclear family (this is a term coined in the 1980’s meant to cover non-traditional families living in two houses) I am particularly interested in working with those embarking on the same path.
My philosophy is simple: If you desire a high integrity transition from romantic relationship to co-parent relationship, it is eminently do-able. The belief that separating households means you’ve failed is pernicious. The version of divorce and separation that mandates acrimony is outdated and harmful. Why waste possibly years of your precious life mired in anger, fighting and conflict with your co-parent? How much better to focus on the future, on the possibilities in your newly constructed world, and on the health of your newly reconfigured family?
Filing a parenting plan is mandatory upon dissolving a marriage in many states, including Washington. Creating a viable plan is just as important for parents who are unmarried. Working through and formulating your parenting plan in a supportive non-adversarial environment sets the foundation for your future. Doing so prior to sitting down with your attorneys will save you emotional and financial strain.
In support of this vision, I am pleased to offer these services:
1 – Co-Parenting Facilitation – Using the parenting plan format, I offer practical guidance, identify your particular potential pitfalls and uncover and recontextualize relationship patterns that will not serve your new co-parenting relationship. All this is done with the utmost respect for your process and for each of you as individuals. I apply my mediation and compassionate communication training to support your creation of a functional co-parenting relationship and a workable parenting plan. Idealistic and realistic.
2 – Parenting Plan Creation – We will create a parenting plan that suits your individual lifestyles, taking into account the developmental stages of the child(ren). We will design parenting plan structures optimized to lessen potential future conflict and provide opportunities for smooth transitions.
3 – Co-Parenting Coaching – I’m happy to offer continued coaching and facilitation as needed to support the parenting plan implementation and generally assist you through challenges that arise on your co-parenting journey.
4 – Individual Coaching – I apply my ontological coaching methodology during private sessions to support your transition. This service is particularly valuable when you are engaged in couple’s counseling, which can leave you feeling emotionally exhausted and unsupported.
Please note, that although I am an attorney, I will in no way be acting in any legal capacity while performing any services. You are advised to consult a lawyer with any legal questions.
